Do Mahodand, It is the only lake with easy jeep access, trout stalls, and boat rentals in season. Add Kundol on a second visit or if you have 6+ days total. Trek lakes are for experienced hikers only.

Kundol, when to choose it
Quieter than Mahodand, fewer stalls, rougher jeep track from Utror. Budget a full day and costs about PKR 7,000 to 10,000 jeep. Best for repeat visitors who want less crowd noise. Not ideal with small kids or bad backs. Track is bumpier.
Trek lakes. Daral, Spin Khwar, Izmis
Daral Lake. 6-8 hour round trek from Bahrain side, hire local guide costs about PKR 3,000 to 5,000. Spin Khwar. Long day or overnight camp, experienced hikers only. Izmis. Mountaineering territory, not a day-trip lake. Always tell your hotel your route and expected return time.
Rules that save trouble
One lake per day. Never stack Mahodand and Kundol. Upper lakes closed roughly Dec to April (snow). Fix jeep price and waiting time before leaving Kalam. No sedan past Ushu village on Mahodand road. Do not swim. Glacial cold, no lifeguards.
Best month for lake trips
June and early July. Full road access, green slopes, warmest weather at altitude. September, fewer families, clearer skies after monsoon breaks. Avoid eid week if you hate jeep queues. Mahodand parking fills by 10 am.
